Frequently Asked Questions > Weddings/Special Celebrations > What is the difference between frosting and ganache?
Dazzle Moment: "The cake was absolutely delicious-moist and chocolaty with a deep, rich flavor, but not too sweet. I would highly recommend (the chocolate ganache) cake for any special occasion. This was perfect and adorable (for the baby shower) and extremely sophisticated." ~ Leslie, NC

A Small Glossary of terms
- Buttercream
A cake icing that can be flavored with almost anything. Our standard is a Almond Buttercream. This frosting is made strickly from butter, confectioner's sugar and pure extracts.
- Royal Frosting
- Is a mixture of confectioner's sugar, varying amounts of water, depending upon the consistency needed, to create beautiful cake decorations (specifically flowers).
- Fondant
Fondant is rolled out like a dough and laid over the cake. It provides a matte finish, and can be used to make many decorative elements that simply can not be achieved with buttercream icing. Fondant has a reputation (I feel undeservedly) as not tasting good, but if you like the look, taste it and decide for yourself. We use 2 different kinds - a white chocolate fondant or vanilla fondant.
Ganache
A rich chocolate filling traditionally made with heavy cream, butter, and chocolate. Think fudge, but not quite as hard. Ganache can be used as a filling, or for true chocoholics can be used to coat the outside of the cake.
