Treats bring back memories

Around the holidays we each have a list of things that make them special. Some of these dishes are only make during the holidays, Thanksgiving, Christmas, or Hanukkah, and when we start to make those dishes it brings back fond memories. Some of my special dishes for Thanksgiving include: apple stuffing, mulled cider, and pecan pie cheesecake. I have to admit that I've very excited to spend some time with my family next week and take a few days to relax. My special dishes will be on the table next week--and we'll share some thankful thoughts on the past year. I can't wait.

This morning I spent some time at a conference at UNCG. I went to support a good friend of mine and of course to bring some treats for everyone in attendance. One of the things I brought was my holiday rum balls. Although they are traditionally for Christmas, they are delicious and almost everyone I know enjoys them-whether it's Christmas or not. While at the conference, I met a student who was almost in tears when she tried my rum balls. She introduced herself to me and told me a lovely story about how in her first bite of the rum ball reminded her of her Grandfather. I was touched by the story and I must admit, it's times like this that I know I am doing the right job.

To all of you out there that have special food memories. I would love to hear about them.
